Awhile ago I mentioned finding an online workshop that combined learning and meditating on a chakra a week with creating a piece of art afterward. The workshop, ChakrART is offered by Simona Cordara at Timeless Rituals. She has given so much of herself and is keeping the worksheets available for a year so I highly recommended checking it out. I have been behind in the "one a week" part of the class but have completed the first two of the chakra meditations, Muladhara (root chakra) and Svadhishtana (sacral chakra). The art journal that I decided to use was one that I

It is not unusual for people in Wisconsin to be "out of their minds" by the time February arrives. We can be a bit stir-crazy from being stuck in the house because of cold or bad weather. So it is fitting that the title of the book I read for the Artful Readers Club this month was "Out of Our Minds: Learning to be Creative" by Sir Ken Robinson. Last fall I heard the author speak on UW campus in Madison as part of the Science Festival and was fascinated by his views regarding education and creativity. There was so

I have been slowly making my way through the list of blog links for the first month of the Artful Readers Club and have been treated to an amazing group of artists. Not only have I enjoyed reading about their book for the month of January, but also seeing their inspired artwork. The disadvantage benefit of blog hopping is that I find more things that I want to check out or get involved in. My most recent discoveries that you will be hearing more about are the Prayer Flag Project, started by Vivika Hansen DeNegre in June 2011, and the

First off, I will admit that I was cutting things very close with the art portion of the Artful Readers Club challenge. I have all kinds of excuses, but let's face it, you don't care, and truth be told, neither do I. I am so excited to have spent time in my studio getting back into the mixed media work that I love. The book I chose for January was the novel "Gentlemen & Players" by Joanne Harris. I rate my books on a scale of one to five, which is something that I started doing when a group of women

I love the start of a new year. I may not achieve all the things I hope to during the year but it is the potential for change that excites me. Two areas that I decided to focus on this year are books and art. Books have always been one of my family's greatest indulgences. I have been using the Good Reads website to track my reading for several years and this year I decided to join in their 2013 Reading Challenge. As much as I would love to read ALL the books I've collected over the years, I decided
