Chakra + Art = ChakrART
Awhile ago I mentioned finding an online workshop that combined learning and meditating on a chakra a week with creating a piece of art afterward. The workshop, ChakrART is offered by Simona Cordara at Timeless Rituals. She has given so much of herself and is keeping the worksheets available for a year so I highly recommended checking it out. I have been behind in the “one a week” part of the class but have completed the first two of the chakra meditations, Muladhara (root chakra) and Svadhishtana (sacral chakra).
The art journal that I decided to use was one that I had used in the past to try out various techniques. So I started the class by creating a dividing page to introduce the class.
The root chakra is represented by the color red. Part of the class instructions included a shape in the chakra’s color on which to meditate. After focusing on the shape, a red circle, you were to close your eyes and “look” for images that appeared. My art piece for the root chakra tries to capture the images and impressions that I had during the exercise.
The art piece that was the result of working through the process for the sacral chakra was not a literal translation of the images I saw like with the root chakra pieced above. After going through the meditation process for the sacral chakra, I didn’t “see” anything. The only thing that seem to come to mind were some words which I used as the base for the 2nd art piece. Part of the meditation process was to find some things around your house that were the color associated with the chakra, in the case of the sacral chakra, it was orange. I had a very hard time finding things to use for this part of the assignment and ultimately decided to embrace my interest in crystals. As fate would have it, I found myself outside of a rock shop and I decided to look for an orange stone to incorporate into my chakra experience. I found a beautiful fire agate that was the basis for the zentangle inspired art that I attached to my journal page.
I have been enjoying the chakra assignments because they have really allowed me to play with art supplies that have been hiding in my studio for far too long. The chakra workshop officially ends next week with the crown chakra. Hopefully, I will at least get myself half way through the workshop before then.

During visualizations we can often see nothing. It’s normal. Sometimes we “feel” and those feelings can transform into images or words or sounds.
The Zentangle is amazing
Thank you for participating and don’t be in a hurry! 🙂
