Crazy Eight

The numbers in the calendar Zentangles© are done in a font called Hill House by Jon Hicks. I will admit that so far the numbers didn’t really look all that special. But today’s number “8″ was what really grabbed my attention and the number itself makes a cool tangle.
And now for the zentangle for July 8th…

Thursday – favorite day of this week

I have a lot of reasons for loving Thursday, including feeding my addiction to the USA network show “Burn Notice”. But this week it is my Zentangle® for the 7th that has me really excited. Out of the seven Zentangles I did for the CreateMixedMedia.com‘s “Week as Art”, today is my favorite. It contains some of my favorite tangles and a technique I saw used in a 1905 Japanese textile design. I used the technique with the tangle at the bottom which unfortunately I don’t know if it has an “official name”, either by Rick and Maria, the founders of Zentangle or by another Certified Zentangle Teacher. I refer to it as “origami” in my sketchbook. The technique floats individual parts of the tangle above the whole to create a layered look. Great fun!

On the 6th day of July…

my family gave to me, a website that I’m not embarrassed to have people see. ;-) Thanks to my techie nephew and brother, my website is looking much better. I still have things I want to change but at least you can see some of my work (plus my family members do have lives of their own, who knew). Anyway, time to move on bigger and better things, like today’s zentangle.

Calendar image – day three

Today is day three of my “Week As Art” at CreateMixedMedia.com. Unfortunately I have been so busy trying to fix my website (that seemed to self-destruct last night while I was trying to make a small addition) that I didn’t get my blog post done until late.
I will still be busy working on my website but plan to get tomorrow’s calendar image posted earlier in the day. With any luck, I can also get my gallery pages working by then as well.

Happy tangled 4th of July!

As our nation celebrates 235 years of independence, I am celebrating day two of my “Week As Art” at CreateMixedMedia.com. As I promised yesterday, each day this week will feature an up close view of my artwork for the day.

I will admit that when I drew this piece, I did not think about the fact that it was representing the 4th of July or I would have included some stars and striped tangles (aka patterns for those of you who are new to Zentangle®). One could interpret the tangles directly behind the number “4″ to represent a bomb and a flag waving. Yes, I know I’m stretching…but…I wish everyone a safe and happy 4th.
