Diva Challenge #48

Wow, I can’t believe it has been 10 weeks since I posted my last  zentangle (and my first for those of you who remember reading that post) for one of Diva’s challenges. But I am on a new mission starting with this week’s challenge, number 48. Fellow Wisconsin CZT, Cathy Staeven and I are working together to motivate each other to not only do the current challenge but to go back and complete the previous 47 challenges. Check out Cathy’s blog, A Tangled Place, to see her beautiful zentangles as we work to meet our goal.

This week’s Diva’s challenge comes from guest challenger, Sue Clark of Colorado. This challenge is called “Tri Shapes” and includes two parts. The first part of the challenge is to use three geometric shapes, (square, circle, and triangle) as the string and to “tri” tangle patterns that we haven’t used before as we complete our zentangle. As I placed my shapes on the tile, I decided to revisit the beginnings of Zentangle and use the first part of the zentangle process, creating a border, as my square. I also decided to use some of the original zentangle patterns defined by Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts as I worked on my zentangle. I found several patterns in what I like to call my “bible of all things Zentangle” that I received at my training which I had never used.

Patterns used: quabog, emingle, tagh, ambler, and vitruvius

Come back tomorrow to see my blast to the past, zentangles for challenges #1 and #47. Cathy and I decided that we would start at both ends and work our way to the middle as we do previous challenges. Until tomorrow…

Treasure in the Mail

About a month ago I received a box that I had been long awaiting. In November 2010, a box full of collage goodies began its way around the world to bring treasures to those who joined in its journey. LaWendula, who hosts many wonderful paper swaps, mailed a box to the first of 28 participants and almost 10 months later it was my turn to pick my treasure from the box. Here are the pieces I finally decided on.

The “rules” required each person to add a piece for everyone removed and then post a picture of a piece of artwork made with your choices. These art the pieces that I added to the box.

Since I have been so busy with my Zentangle® teaching, I haven’t had much time to work on my mixed media work. I decided to use one of the pieces I took from the collage box and create a Zentangle-inspired piece of art. One of the pieces I fell in love with was a piece of painted water color paper. I used the changes in colors as my string and tangled the entire piece. What FUN!!!

Diva Challenge #38

For months I have been trying to do Laura Harm’s Zentangle® challenge at her blog, I am the diva czt. I have done a few of the challenges but never posted them to my blog. Last week’s challenge was to use the Paradox tangle to fill an entire tile. Variations of paradox (or tangleations as us CZT’s® tend to call them) were also open to use. Now that the boys are in school, I sat down with a cup of tea last Thursday and got into the “zen” of the challenge. I had also been wanting to play around with the black tiles so that was where I started.

After I finished the first one, I loved the art deco feel that I couldn’t stop at one. I did one reversing the tangles and followed it up with similar ones on the original white tiles. Thanks Laura for this challenge!

Farewell to my Week as Art

I feel like I should break out in song…So long, farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, goodnight — I hate to go and leave this pretty sight (I do love the Sound of Music). Today’s zentangle is my last for “The Week As Art” at CreateMixedMedia.com. I hope everyone enjoyed seeing my art as much as I enjoyed making it.

Now it is time for me to prep for my class next week through the Wisconsin Union mini-courses. It is always a great time sharing Zentangle® with a group of individuals.

Crazy Eight

The numbers in the calendar Zentangles© are done in a font called Hill House by Jon Hicks. I will admit that so far the numbers didn’t really look all that special. But today’s number “8″ was what really grabbed my attention and the number itself makes a cool tangle.
And now for the zentangle for July 8th…
